II scientific conference "Human rights before the challenges of reality"

II naučna konferencija "Ljudska prava pred izazovima stvarnosti"

On 9/12/2020. in the organization of our Faculty, the II scientific conference "Human rights before the challenges of reality" was held. This year's conference was supported by the European Union and the Council of Europe through the joint program "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey II", and , like last year, the conference was organized in cooperation with the Institution of Ombudsman for Human Rights of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The conference was held on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.

Modern human rights law at the time it was created could not foresee all the numerous challenges that the dynamic environment of the future social reality will face. In this context, a whole series of stimulating questions opened up for analysis: to what extent the initial values on which the international human rights system was founded managed to be maintained and confirmed in changed social circumstances; whether the internationalist model of human rights protection succeeded in achieving its initially set goals; have human rights managed to escape statist restrictions; whether the existing normative framework and the related supervisory mechanism are flexible enough to adapt to the demands of dynamic social reality; whether the evolutionary interpretation of the existing normative solutions is sufficient to ensure their current applicability, with reference to the processing of human trafficking; Is the human rights system, especially in the case of vulnerable social groups, victims of human trafficking, national minorities and LGBTI persons, for example, effective enough to protect them from discrimination ? Within the aforementioned topics, the authors analyzed various aspects of regulating the protection of human rights.

This year's scientific conference was attended by scientists, teachers and associates from universities/universities from Mostar, Zenica, Tuzla, Bihać, as well as legal experts (ombudsmen, as well as associates in state institutions and the non-governmental sector).

Papers from the Conference will be published in the thematic issue of the Yearbook of the Faculty of Law of the University "Džemal Bijedić" in Mostar.

The conference was held online, through the Microsoft TEAMs platform, due to the epidemiological situation caused by the Covid-19 virus pandemic.
