The Sarajevo Security Conference, in partnership with NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT), invites undergraduate and postgraduate students from across Bosnia and Herzegovina to apply for participation in the NATO Model Event 2025, to be held in Sarajevo on 26 September 2025.
This unique simulation of NATO’s work gives young people the opportunity to step into the role of NATO country ambassadors, participate in strategic discussions, and experience the consensus-based decision-making process used within the NATO alliance.
“The NATO Model Event is the central youth-focused activity within the Sarajevo Security Conference, and has been designed as a platform for strengthening knowledge, international cooperation, and critical thinking among young professionals in the fields of security, international relations, and policy. Through this initiative, SSC further reinforces its role as a regional forum for inclusive dialogue and capacity building. In an era of global security challenges, investing in the knowledge and voices of youth is a vital step towards long-term stability. This simulation enables students from Bosnia and Herzegovina to directly engage with the principles of diplomacy, international cooperation, and security in a way that is both educational and inspiring,” said Hikmet Karčić, Director of the Sarajevo Security Conference.
NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT), headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia (USA), is one of NATO’s two Strategic Commands, responsible for preparing the Alliance for future security challenges. In a world of accelerating change and strategic competition, ACT leads innovation and the transformation of NATO’s capabilities. In this spirit, NATO ACT has provided direct support for this event in Sarajevo.
“Young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina have enormous potential to shape the future of regional and global security. Simulations like this one not only help them develop key skills, but also strengthen the connection between NATO and local communities. We want to offer insight into how decisions are made within NATO and how the Alliance operates. It is crucial that high-level conferences like the Sarajevo Security Conference include dedicated youth programming focused on participation, cooperation, and shared decision-making,” shared organisers.
All travel and accommodation costs for selected participants will be fully covered. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to attend the main sessions of the Sarajevo Security Conference 2025 and will receive an official NATO Certificate of Participation upon completion of the programme.
